We have done a lot of work in the area of technology in our school.
We have had a poster competition based on internet safety, we have had a Skype call with a software engineer based in Galway, who designs apps for the iPhone and we have learned about scratch and blogging.
These posts about our DPSMA are written and designed by the children in our school. They also take all the photos used for the blogs.
The engineer’s name was Vinny Coyne we learned about apps. I learned that it can take up to 3 months to make an app. We asked him 15 questions. The Engineer told us about his work lasting until 2 or 3 in the morning. The first app he ever made was called Eirtext. He works for Active Mind. His new game is based on golf.
SKYPE CALL WITH ENGINEER
Today Vinny Coyne and our class had a Skype video call.
The company that Mr. Coyne works for is called Active Mind Technology.
We got to ask some questions. Ryan was first he asked, what is the first app you made that failed? Mr. Coyne said he has had apps that have failed but that he learns from his mistakes and has made all his apps better as he learns more about coding and marketing.
Vinny said his favourite one is Game Golf even though he is still working on it. Cian G was next, he asked what does it take to become a Software Engineer? Vinny said it takes a lot of time to become a Software Engineer you have to be good at math and English. Mr. Coyne said you have to be a good at problem solving to be a Software Engineer.
Sean D asked Vinny; what is the latest time you ever stayed up working on an app? Vinny said the latest time he stayed up was 3am.
Mike asked; what are your 3 favorite apps that you have developed?
He said his first one was Game golf his second is Eirtext and his third was a game app he made for Denny Sausages.
I learned a lot about iPhone apps and how they are made. It was a lot of fun.
Scratch: Room 7 5th class
This year we did coding on scratch with Brendan Smith. On the first Two days we learnt the basics like making our own avatars move by giving them instructions. On the third day we made simple shooting game and our avatar and Harry, a boy in our class made 50 demons for the shooting games. On the fourth day we made documentations with animals from their respective habitats. On the fifth day we made a slide show about the 1916 rising and we had to our own P.H. Pearse and we made him talk about 1916. All of our class wish to do it again.
